In the Czech Republic, people can’t imagine life without tartar sauce. They eat it with boiled potatoes, fries and other fried meals, they eat it more than ketchup. There are different ways to prepare tartar sauce but some of them are not very healthy. This is one of the healthier (easy and quick) versions. In this recipe, we use farmer’s cheese (or queso fresco) but you can also make tartar sauce using yogurt or mayonnaise.
1 cup farmer’s cheese (or queso fresco) or yogurt or mayonnaise
heavy cream (app. 1/4 cup)
1 small onion
2 small pickles
1-2 pressed garlic cloves
salt and ground black pepper to taste
Put farmer’s cheese (or queso fresco) or yogurt or mayonnaise into a bowl and cut the onion and pickles into small pieces. Mix it together and add cream. The amount of cream depends on how thin you want the sauce. Then add pressed garlic and salt and pepper to taste.
